Privacy Policy

Because of the increasingly litigious nature of our society, I have drafted the Privacy Policy that appears below. It can and should be read in such a way that the questions are seemingly coming from you, the reader, and the responses are coming from me, your humble host. Admittedly I’ve been a bit glib here, but make no mistake that this document does indeed govern the various privacy policies, protections, and related actions that pertain to this site.

Who are you, and what is this thing?

My name is Ryan Eanes, and I’m delighted that you’re here! This website (–clever, isn’t it?) is my personal and oft-neglected domain. This Privacy Policy, for example, was first drafted in August 2018.

What kind of data about me and my visit are you collecting?

When a visitor leaves comments on this site, I (meaning the software that is actually running the show) collect the data that said visitor provides in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. I may, at my discretion, also require visitors who wish to leave comments on the site to register; this necessitates that the user provide me with his or her email address and a password of his or her choosing, which is encrypted and masked from my view.

Typically speaking, I do not generally request, solicit, or encourage the uploading of images or other forms of media to this website, save for very specific circumstances that pertain to particular groups of people (e.g., I may ask students from one of my classes to upload an assignment using a shortlink from this site). In the event that you are in a position where you will be uploading images or media files to this site, be aware that your files may contain embedded/hidden location data (EXIF GPS) and other identifying (meta) data. Visitors to this site may be able to download and extract similar data from images found on the site… but if you’re doing that, I think you really need to find a more interesting hobby.

Contact forms

My contact form requires that you provide a name and email address before your message can be submitted. This information is not made available to anyone other than me personally, and my email logs are routinely purged.

If you leave a comment on this site, you may be presented with the option to opt-in to saving your name, email address and personal URL. This tool utilizes cookies, small text-based pieces of code that are stored locally on your own computer. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year. Otherwise this website is nowhere near sophisticated enough to use cookies for any other reason.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles and pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.) from other websites. Be aware that this embedded content, which is being hosted from servers that do not belong to me, behaves in the exact same way as if you had visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

This site utilizes third-party analytics tools to automatically collect information about website visitors that may include details such as your operating system, screen resolution, browser version, IP address, and more. While these details are not coupled with any personally identifying data, it is your right to be aware that this info is nevertheless being collected. If you don’t wish for this type of information to be gathered by my analytics tools, you are advised to employ software shields that are appropriate for your browser and hardware.

Who might you share my data with?

In short, nobody. Aside from comments that you may choose to post on this site, I do not repurpose or reuse any information submitted to me in any form without the express consent and permission of the individual who supplied the information. For example, if you sent me an email that I wanted to share online, I would not do so without first seeking out your consent.

How long will you keep the data that I dump here?

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

With regards to my personal data, what rights do I have?

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data that I might be obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Is my data sent anywhere else or transmitted to other parties?

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Alright buster, I think I’m satisfied, but how can I reach you if need be?

Email me at or use my contact form. I try to respond to messages as promptly as I can, barring complications such as travel, shark attacks, unexpected hexes, missile crises, etc.
